It is certainly an area that requires discernment, because--of course--God works in our lives in new ways and that does and should bring about change in the church. But the consensus of the church has always been that the canon of scripture is closed, meaning that no other writings or claims to revelation have the same authority, and that, if I think God is speaking to me, I should be testing that idea against the written word of Scripture. The closed canon records the central events of the faith--the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus--and any other claims must be seen in light of that.

Is it true that the canon is closed? Are people who "hear" God moving them to another position wrong? What about change in the church?
