I have, and am reading, Amy Peeler’s wonderful book. It’s very disturbing that a “colleague”? Would decide to blatantly malign her in such a way! It’s not surprising, considering the general vitriolic mood in the air. The mentality that creates enemies as an attempt to claim power over them, is totally contrary to Jesus’ Way! As a United Methodist pastor, that attitude has split the denomination! There’s a darkness in the air, BUT, The Light shines brightly anyway! Keep up The Good News that encourages us! Thank you!
Good grief!! GOOD GRIEF!! In an Episcopal church?? How old is this man? What does his bishop say about this review, this ‘position’ on females in general, and specifically women in ministry?? I am 78 years old, went to seminary in midlife, took my first and only paid position at 52 and have officially retired twice, most recently 2.5 years ago. I am DONE with this blind, unkind, unbiblical way of thinking and leading. And I had hoped the Episcopal church was different from my own evangelical tradition. How sad to learn it is not always so.
I have read Amy Peeler’s “Women and the Gender of God”. I have also read Katherine Bushnell’s “God’s Word to Women “. Both books are enlightening and scripturally solid though I think that Katherine’s work would elicit an even more lively response from Amy’s so-called colleague. Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on us all. So sad that such outstanding work is not being given the respectful reading and supporting responses that it deserves. I found Amy’s approach very helpful and scholarly and am surprised by the “feminist” label that he used to dismiss her work. Jealousy is an ugly thing.

I’m anger & sad that this happened. And, proud of you for speaking the truth.
Reminds me of an experience over 20 yrs ago, just speaking in the church kitchen and being shut down by other women for saying God wasn’t male.
Ugh.
So appreciate your writing and insights on this and the previous TGC reviews. ("Reviews.") I'll be getting Peeler's book because of what I read here!
thank you Mindy! I hope she sees a surge in sales!
